Our Impact
The larger Austin community currently has over 3000 unhoused families. Some families are on the streets in plain sight, but a larger proportion are homeless in hiding; living in their cars, shelters, tents in woods or moving from couch to couch.
A much larger number of families however are at risk of being homeless. Many families that are living paycheck to paycheck can face eviction if they fall behind on their rent due to issues like sickness, losing their jobs, family needs and a number of other events out of their control. Once someone is evicted from home and living on the streets, it has the potential of inflicting a lot of physical, social and mental abuse and trauma. Survival on the street takes away peoples pride and hope, pushing them into a downward spiral.
We can however stop that, at least for some of our neighbors. We are part of a listserv that all the social workers and non profits organizations in Austin use to post instances where people in Austin are at risk of fall behind and getting evicted. In most cases, these folks are in need of monetary help ($100 to $500) to get them out of that situation. Though there are larger government programs and lot of NGOs working on housing people already homeless, there is not much resources available for folks that are not yet homeless but at risk. Our goal is to provide support to folks and keeping them for getting homeless in the first place. Keeping their dignity and life together and stopping it from falling apart.
We work with Social workers and NGOs to make sure the money is going in the right hands and we are making a difference.
See below some of the instances where we have been able to help. Feel free to reach out to us for any further details on our work and funds being used.
